Peter Polos is board certified in both pulmonary and sleep medicine and holds a PhD in
microbiology and immunology. He is an associate professor of sleep medicine at Hackensack JFK
Medical Center and is an attending physician at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey.
As Sleep Number’s sleep expert, Peter leverages his 20+ years of experience in sleep
health, research and patient care to support Sleep Number’s mission of improving lives by
individualizing sleep experiences.
Peter earned his MD and PhD from Louisiana State University’s School of Medicine in New
Orleans and completed his internal medicine residency at New York University Downtown Hospital, now New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He then completed his pulmonary and sleep fellowship
at the Medical University of South Carolina.
After his training, Peter worked in private practice in pulmonary, critical care and sleep
medicine. He spent eight years in a multinational pharmaceutical company, serving as Global Director of Scientific Affairs, and subsequently served as a consultant to the pharma industry.
Peter has extensive experience in clinical trial design, implementation, and oversight. He has designed numerous global trials in respiratory, critical care, and infectious disease.
He is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and over 30 abstracts and presented
data globally in more than 25 countries. Drawing on his extensive training and expertise,
he’s spoken at numerous national and international scientific symposia.
